Surgery!!! (Graphic pictures to follow)

This semester we have junior surgery. We are broken into teams of 3 (1 surgeon, 1 assistant, and 1 anesthetist) and each of us has 3 surgeries to do (1 soft tissue, 1 spay or neuter, and 1 orthopedic). These are pictures from my first soft tissue surgery. I got to do a gastropexy and a cyctotomy... here are some websites that better describe the procedures: http://members.fortunecity.com/houndfancy/gastropexy.html for the gastropexy and http://lbah.com/canine/urolithiasis.htm#sx for the cystotomy. Any questions about either procedure (or in general) feel free to ask! Oh, PS! The picture where the body wall is being held up by instruments is the gastropexy and the picture where my assistant is holding the bladder with suture is the cystotomy :)).

Cedar Tree!

Here are some cute pictures of cedar in his rain coat and him with his kitty (Trouble)!

Seattle... finally

Ok, so things got extremely hectic and I've slacked... slacked big time. I'm going to try to catch up today so bear with me :) First let's do Seattle...

I had an extership here for 2 weeks. It wasn't really what I thought but still a good experience. I got to scrub in on an ACL repair (mostly known as a cranial cruciate repair in the Vet world :)) and it was really neat... kinda made up for the rest of the time there which was very very slow. Here are some pictures of the hospital... my favorite part was that they had a dog side and a cat side!
Next, I got to take the ferry from Vashon Island, where I was staying, to Seattle and spend the day there :) I loved it... I really like Seattle and even though I've been there before I really can't get tired of it... especially going to the fish market and watching the boys toss fish ;-) I figured since I already had pictures from the first visit to Seattle I'd focus on the Ferry!
While in Washington I stayed with the Caron's... they are friends of my cousins and I was so greatful they were willing to put me up for 2 weeks. Here are some pictures of they're place! And here is where I got to stay while at the Caron's... their guest house above the garage!

Penguins/Table Mountain/Robben Island

This is the last round of pictures from my South Africa adventure :) Hope you had fun!

These are from Table Mountain National Park where the South African penguin reside. They were terribly cute all waddling around. Apparently the South African penguins are called jackass penguins cause they sound like donkeys when the make noise... the people of South Africa don't really appreciate this and are trying to get them recognized more so as the South African penguins :) The last picture is the only picture I got of Table Mountain... it was while we were driving :)Our last day (before heading to the airport) was pent on Robben Island. This is the island Nelson Mandela was held from 1964 to 1982. Here we got a bus tour of the island hosted by previous inmates (mostly political prisoners) and then a walking tour of the prison. I was more impressed with the bus tour... they took us to the lime quarry in which he worked and in general gave a very good, very understandable tour. The man who gave us the walking tour of the prison was hard to understand and we only got to see Mandela's cell from the outside (it's the window that's open). All in all it was a good experience. And finally here's a picture of the Quantum 2... our van! And one of our luggage loaders :-D These guys were our lifesavers! And that's my South African trip! For anyone who lives near me my tapes are open for viewing to whoever so desires!! :-D Thanks for reading!
